STACK Infrastructure is doubling down in Hillsboro, Oregon. The data center developer has bought additional land that boosts its capacity in the Portland suburb to 50 acres, which will allow STACK to expand its campus to 230 megawatts of critical power to support tenant IT loads.

Hillsboro has emerged as one of the fastest-growing data center markets over the past year. The region benefits from a favorable cost environment, including a prominent enterprise zone and Oregon’s business-friendly tax policies—as well as a climate that’s ideal for keeping servers cool. That’s attractive to sustainability-aware enterprises, who also like the region’s ample supply of renewable energy.

“As one of the first data center developers in Hillsboro, STACK is dedicated to swift, strategic development to continuously address the demand for available capacity in this rapidly expanding region,” said Brian Cox, Chief Executive Officer of STACK Americas. “Our commitment to deliver 200MW on this campus builds on our significant investment in the market.”

The original STACK facility in Hillsboro came online in 2012, and was developed by Fortune Data Centers, which later became part of Infomart Data Centers.

STACK Infrastructure was formed by investor IPI Data Center Partners with assets acquired from Infomart and T5 Data Centers. IPI is co-sponsored by ICONIQ Capital and an affiliate of Iron Point Partners.

STACK’s strategy features a combination of “rack-ready” wholesale space for immediate delivery (Ready STACK), rapid development of powered shell data halls for larger requirements (Power STACK), and build-to-suit projects for entire campuses (Hyper STACK).

The company has been in growth mode over the past year, and now operates a global platform spanning 16 markets and three continents.

  •  In March, STACK expanded into Europe, adding data centers previously operated by DigiPlex and SUPERNAP Italia.
  •  In January, the company announced plans for a 216-megawatt data center campus in “Data Center Alley” in Ashburn, Virginia. The new 80-acre site will feature three buildings and offer nearly 1 million square feet of data center space.
  • In October 2021, STACK Infrastructure entered the Asia-Pacific market with a regional headquarters in Singapore and plans to build its first two data centers in Tokyo and Osaka, with projects to follow in Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, Australia, and other Asia Pacific markets.
